Re: 1929 Ford Roadster Pickup
Amazingly enough, Ford never made a "Roadster" pickup.

Re: 1929 Ford Roadster Pickup
I don't know where you live. But for all my life in So Cal Open Cab Pickups have been called Roadster Pickups. On CA Titles that are referred to as RPU.

Re: 1929 Ford Roadster Pickup
Chris you likely have a point about what they are called however it still don't make it correct. Many older hobbyists confuse Novices or the unknowing with incorrect nomenclature -or by made-up names. To some, it may seem petty but my experiences it can cause stress for others. For this reason, I make all of my employees refer to parts by Ford's nomenclature.

Re: 1929 Ford Roadster Pickup
Ive bought and sold hundreds of titles.......
have never seen one that said rpu. truck, box, express, delivery are what come to mind. that is a relatively modern term. also the term pickup on titles seems to start in the 40s. I owned a 29 rpu and it just said truck, on the original title. |

Re: 1929 Ford Roadster Pickup
I agree, the whole discussion inane. For example, Xerox Corporation made the first machine in (I believe) the 50’s or 60’s manufactured machines to make copies of original pages. We all called them “Xerox” copies. When other companies started making similar machines everyone kept calling any duplicates “Xerox copies”. It doesn’t matter what the manufacturer or a government agency call an item, people call it whatever makes sense and is understandable to everyone.
Therefore, if people want to call them Roadster Pickups, RPU’s or pickups, it doesn’t matter as long as everyone understands what the damn thing is! David Serrano |

But David that is the issue that I see, not everyone does understand what this bodystyle is. Since you used an analogy, let me use this one too. Your name is David, -and that is what people know and identify you as. Maybe because I don't think you look like someone named David, I just called you George S, ...which causes confusion because that is not your proper name and people would even be more confused when I tried to speak to someone about you. We live in a different era with these cars and there is so much confusion with novices in this hobby. |

In my mind, just because folks call "it" something else, doesn't make it correct. I believe it is never too late for folks to learn. There are still many that insist they own a '40 Ford Opera Coupe even though one had never been produced. Ha, just thought this may be a good time for folks to read my quote at the end of my post.

Re: 1929 Ford Roadster Pickup
I have an “Open Cab” 28 pickup truck. A lot more people know what I’m talking about if i call it a roadster pickup than do if i call it an open cab. Some people don’t even know what roadster means so for them I call it a “Convertible” pickup, everybody knows what that mean. While I agree it’s not correct but it’s about communication not correctness. After all, if I asked you for a “Kleenex” you would know what I needed.

Re: 1929 Ford Roadster Pickup
And yes, I know that it is not a true convertible either since the top does not fold down (which I did not know before I bought it) but folk’s know what I mean.

Re: 1929 Ford Roadster Pickup
All the bs on terminology aside, it looks like a nice “Open Cab” pickup truck at a real good price (if the ad is legit & correct). If it were closer to me (I’m in Seattle) I would give it serious consideration.

Re: 1929 Ford Roadster Pickup
Considering the motor info that’s a real good price.
