Just purchased a '29 Model AA truck. I'm excited, but its completely original, unrestored, and rough. I feel that I got a good deal on it, though. It's complete minus the radiator and bed. How much have ya'll seen them go for in restorable condition? (I'm asking to make my wife feel better about it)

Welcome to the club! I can't answer the value question but I can answer to the fact that you will find many ways to enjoy the car on tours. I would recommend a couple of things:

1) Cast iron drums
2) An over drive so that you can drive her much more easily

For a bed you might consider looking at the 'commercial body' thread and put on something unique like a large mug of rootbeer

. Something, that really stands out.

The guys on aa-fords.com might be able to give you a good answer .. their great on the AA stuff ... Mind you allot of the AA is the same as an A ... have fun with the AA ...

Congrats on the purchase! They have an AA on eBay right now for $13,500 buy it now. It just has a wood bed, but a very nicely done one. I have seen some other AA's that have rarer beds like the tow rigs, fuel truck, etc. go for higher just because of the rarity of the bed. Most of the regular A stuff will cross over to the 29 AA so parts are easy to get also. If you have any other question PM me, as I'm going thru a 29 AA at this time also.

She's a great piece and hope you the best. Im restoring mine as well. Mine is oringinal with 84,000 + miles on it all original. took head off has standard bore and original valves and pistons. You need help PM me too.

Leathernek, I have one out here in western Okla. that I would make you a heck of a deal on. Chassis is all there, cab is pretty rotten, has a flat grain bed minus the wood. Still together, the engine turns. If you need parts there it is. Monte

That would be cool, I saw that someone had a Standard Oil tanker on one! I might go with an express bed, If I can find one cause its sorta like a 1929 F-350 lol

Wash it good and oil it or wax it to stop further rust. You can restore it 100 times but it is only original once.

What oil or wax do you recommend using to stop the rust? I thought about using that rust eating or etching primer but don't want to ruin the patina......

Any oil will do, but that catches dust. Car wax will seal the rust. Rust needs oxygen to continue. If you block off the oxygen rust can't progress. Meguiars makes great wax. http://www.meguiars.com/

This one was $3,900 at the truck nationals in South Bend Indiana last week. My wife said NO!

A couple of years ago I bought one for 3500, it had a knock in the engine but I drove it on the trailer. Other than that it was pretty much roadworthy. It even had a BF head and high speed gears. AAs aren't worth much but they sure are fun. Don't go overboard trying to make it perfect, just get it roadworthy and go bring something home from the lumber yard with it, and have fun.

My personal experience is that stock AA braking is just fine, even when loaded up.
You don't need an overdrive, 40 is fast enough in an AA unless you have a pile of wheels and tires to play with to find some that run perfectly true, otherwise your front fenders will be shaking like a gorilla on a coconut tree as you near 50 mph on a downhill grade. Most guys are just happy to find rims that aren't rotted out, any wobble they might have is way down the list when searching for good AA wheels. That's the main reason I think an OD in an AA isn't worth fooling with. Enjoy the ride and to hell with the guy behind you.

Yeah, I just wanted a truck and found this one for cheap. I just hope that the motor is good and I can get it running soon!
