I own a 31 RPU that I purchased as a runner in Jan/2022. It is by no means pretty, but it is beautiful to me. It is all stock except for modifications on the engine. The motor was rebuilt with insert bearings and a 6.1 head. I have since added Red’s headers, an Ansen downdraft with a Stromberg 97, an FSI distributor and a 12V upgrade. This winter I will add a set of Posie’s springs with reversed eye and 16” wheels. But to this thread. I was unhappy with the ability to use the motor with the stock transmission so I looked at options. The first was the Mitchell which I felt had several cons: price, no synchro to first gear and a separate shifter for the over drive. I have several other vintage vehicles into which I have installed a T5 and have never had a regret. I started searching out available pieces to aid in the swap and this is what I came up with. A 30 lb flywheel from Burtz, a V8 clutch from Speedway, a bell housing from Vintage Precision, a mid 80s T5 from a Jeep (transfer case removed) and a closed drive shaft adaptor from Kato Kings. I have a AA bell housing and a S10 4x4 transmission, but I believe the package I have assembled is the shortest possible setup available. According to measurements I have taken, I will only have to notch the cross member and that I can deal with. The setup is complete and sitting on the bench awaiting install this winter. I agonized over the rear brakes until I read about the adaptor mentioned in the above posts. I was going to cut and lower mine, but to have one that is done properly allays my fears. I will shorten the drive shaft and the wish bones and figure out how to mount the e-brake.
