Default Re: What to check on a 46 Mercury

[QUOTE=Doctor's Ford;1966392]The ID plate is partially covered by an electrical component (fuses?). These are the numbers and letters that are visible, arranged in 4 separate lines:

ENGINE - 6D-2437 (the rest is covered, not visible)
TRIM - M-165 (the rest is covered, not visible)
PAINT - M - 39 (the rest is covered, not visible)
CODE - 12 (the rest is covered, not visible)

This is what I could identify so far:

https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...fo-thread.html

I have confirmed that Canadian Ford/Mercury did place this type of ID plate.

ENGINE - 6D-2437:

6 = 1946;
D = type of engine and transmission, 239 cu displacrement. Other source states D = 114" wheelbase

2437 is the engine sequence number for that plant

PAINT - M 3989 is Ford/Mercury marroon

I can not find any information of the meaning of the TRIM and CODE lines are in the ID plate.

To me this is sufficient information to believe this car is mostly original.
