I am not a pro on post war Fords but sure can't recall ever seeing or hearing of a Ford (OEM) light.
I did take a close look through my parts manuals and find no listing there. Nor is there a reference to such on the wiring schematic.
My guess is this is an after-market piece added by someone in the past.

Have you attempted to ask the Ford V8 Club advisor?
