The armed forces are NOT the same as the citizenry of a country. A soldier is trained (and paid) to kill, a citizen is supposed to do nothing like that to other citizens. Yes, there is a different mentality.
I've been in the US several times and I know in which country I feel safer walking down the street regardless of the hour of day.
I'll say no more on this subject.
