That is strange, any tractor/farm supply should be able to get it fairly easily. A lot or farm equipment uses it. Might ask a COOP (not sure what such an organization is called up north) what they use as a substitute. Farm supplies are all over the place in Kansas, so hard to relate!

I agree! I’ve been on the phone today with Case/IH, new holland, and a couple of others.... no luck... they just use GL-5, at least according to whomever is answering the phone...also called UFA, United Farmers of Alberta, who can get the Chevron product.... maybe by December... Alberta looks like Montana, lots of farms and tractors and farm suppliers and dealers up here as well... I agree, doesn’t make sense...

You will find a Co-op store in almost every town in Saskatchewan I'd guess. They offer a wide range of oils for many purposes. This pdf chart lists the various oils and their properties. Notice the Sonic MP gear oil (with CGT) is described as "an ashless oil designed to eliminate chemical reactions with yellow metals such as brass.

Thanks to all who provided leads... I’ve located a source locally for 90W GL1 and another for 140W, also GL-1, both requiring product ordering (non stock items), and have ordered a 5 gallon pail of each.

If the orders are successful, I’ll post the info....

Update on my search.... the 140 wt arrived first, still waiting on the 90w.... as promised, here’s the details on the 140w:

Available supposedly throughout Alberta at Red L Distributors, 15.9 L for $97.07 plus tax... in the Calgary area call 403 720-2872, product number 223037-783, made by chevron. I’ll provide info on the 90w if it shows.

Just a tip, the "w" is for "winter" rating of oil/lubes, it is not for "weight". SAE 140 viscosity automotive lubricants do not normally get rated at winter temperatures. The same applies to SAE 90, 85w in normally the highest viscosity of lubricant with a winter temperature rating. In multi-viscosity rated lubricants would be listed something like 85w/140, which would be a viscosity rated at 85 using the winter rating temperature and 140 using the high temperature (normal) rating temperature.
