I would recommend that you convert the OEM starter motor to 12 volts. Your 6 volt starter motor could work fine for years on 12 volts or it could go out tomorrow. That's a crap shoot. Even in cars and trucks I have with the stock 6 volt system, I keep an extra Bendix Spring in the glove box, just because you never know...
