Default Modern Shocks, what is it?

Someone converted to tubular rear shocks and I want to replace them. Trouble is, I can't figure out what they are. Chances are, they're old, say 1970s and may be a discontinued model or number. They are rusty and it's hard to get numbers off of them. I did get "Made in USA" so I can assume they are Monroe or Gabriel. So far, the number I'm getting is 161--12 or U2. They were factory painted black.
The shock has a eye at each end, no threaded rod. The hole in the top rubber bushing seems to be 9/16 and the bottom is 5/8. The distance between the hole centers, fully extended, is 17 1/4 ", Compressed is 10 3/4". The large Diameter (Top) is 2", the bottom is 1 3/4" Anybody know what the are? In researching this, I found a shock which was very close, but not the same for a 56-58 Buick. Thanks in advance.
