I have a 1953 EAB flathead and transmission with OD. $750 OBO
Here is want I know about the engine: When I got it it would only turn about 10°. I pulled the heads expecting the worse but it turned out there were four stuck valves. After working with the valves a few minutes each with penetrating oil they loosened right up. The cylinders look great, they could use a little honing to clean them up. I could not see any cracks in the block by looking at it. The passenger side head has a crack on the outside, under the #2 cylinder. Update: I found a good EAB head for this engine. Two bolts holds on the driver's side are a little iffy. One head bolt broke off when I pulled the heads and I drilled it out and retapped it. This bolt and the other didn't seem to want to torque down when I reinstalled the heads so I didn't push them. I would say they will have to have a helicoil installed. I ran a tap threw all of the holes, after I did it I was told this may cause leakage but should be OK if you use thread sealer. I changed the oil, installed new spark plugs, wires, condenser and points. I am trying to get it to run but haven't had much time to work on it. It did pop once. I don't know much about the transmission. One mounting ear is broken off. It spins freely when I was turning the engine over. I am located just north of Milwaukee and if you're interested you're more than welcome to come over and check the engine out in person. I have described the engine as best as I can, I don't want to sell you something you don't want. I have a forlift truck to load. Last edited by bobj49f2; 05-09-2012 at 06:39 PM. |
