Cool engine redo

i have a 30 model a roadster.im trying to upgrade my engine for drivability and reliability. My original engine seems to be sound compression is at 55 to 60 lbs.My question is what combination of things i can do,with least amount of problems.I was thinking of changing to a stipe cam,and snyder 5.5 head. maybe headers and dual carbs. What header is better thinking of red headers cast iron or steel? This is my first model a just trying to make it more reliable and maybe add a little power and gas mileage. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
