More than few times I've just brazed a pick-up tube into the tank. I've also added pick-up tubes to S/W fuel senders.

Usually double flared the tube and used either an inverted flare to hose barb or tube union to connect to the fuel line.

Obviously not a deuce in the picture; but an idea.
