Generally the intake valves had Ford script and the exhausts had no marking. The exhausts were definetly harder than the intakes. The intake valves will bend whereas the exhaust valves will break. When removing valves, it is easy to tap on the edge of the exhaust valve to break the head off so you can tap the guide down.
