Default 1940 ford V-8 difficult to start after running

I have no problem starting my car after it has been sitting for a while. However, after running the car for a few miles, the car is often difficult to start. The car hardly turns over before it finally starts. Do I have a starter problem or possibly a bad connection to the solenoid form the battery? Any suggestions would be welcomed. Thanks for your help.
