Yes, I run premium no ethanol gas, no ping at all. In fact, I need to do some experimenting with the vacuum brake--back it out a little at a time to see if I can it to the point where it will ping, because on a long hill, it seems to run out of power more than I think it should. But that will have to wait until spring--it's well below freezing here in Minnesota and I don't have a heater in the old Ford. Regards, Rod

If you are running out of power on a long hill it would point towards a fuel delivery problem. The pump may be only delivering enough fuel to cope with idling and gentle driving. A long haul at wider throttle will cause the fuel level to drop and the motor to falter. It might be that the same condition could also give a lean condition which would raise combustion temperatures and possibly lead to an overheating problem.
My 33 coupe faltered after a while on a long uphill stretch. It's still on the to-do list. It drives ok in all other situations. With regards to the timing, it might be better to approach it from the other end of the scale and start with the screw all the way out and the felt pad just barely touching the disc. I've read that here a few times as advice given by people more expert than me. Mart. |

Yes, it's my intention to start with the brake all the way out. I'm sure it's getting enough fuel--it never falter's or hiccups at all, it just won't "go" anymore when I push the accelerator. It isn't major, but when it's running 2100-2200 rpm and half way up a hill you shove it to the floor, nothing really changes-sound or speed. I've considered it may be getting too much fuel, because it's only getting around 15 mpg, running 2000 rpm @ 60 mph with the gearing I have. It's possible one of the power valves is leaking a little. Such fun tinkering with the old girls (cars!) Rod
