Anyone using lucas 19 inch tires made in Vietnam? good- bad - mileage ?

I have a set of 21s and I'm not impressed. Hard to balance and not quite round. For a parade car they would be OK but if you are going to drive 50+ on the hiway spend more and get better IMO.

They came on my car, so far have about 3000 miles on them and working good. Do not know if I would by them, if I was buying tires, but they seem ok so far.

Got them on my wife's 26 and my 29 tudor . No problems with about 2000 miles on them.

Exclusively use them all my Model T's and A and have nothing but good things to say about them.




Note: the top one is a NOS B.F. Goodrich that I mounted on the spare.

I have Lucas 19's on my '31 PU. Got about 5K on them and they are holding up well, with none of the issues mentioned by previous posters.

I have a set of Firestones on one of my A's that weather checked after 3 years. When I contacted the dealer I was told there was no warranty to cover this problem. I have now changed to Goodyears.

I've got them on my 29 Tudor. They came un-mounted with the car (that was running on tired Goodyears needing replacement) & I debated putting them on because of the posts but they've been great so far. Not balanced and no vibration @ 40 to 45 mph. I'm not a high mileage driver and was on a tight budget with every thing I needed to do to the car to put it on the road and figured. I could get on the road sooner and always upgrade later. They've fit the bill perfectly.

I just bought my second set of Universal Tires made in Vietnam (Which I can care less about) When I bought them at 66.00 each i was told they would be good for 15k miles I ran them for 19K and can't say enough good things about them. For the price they serve the purpose excellent, ran from Chicago to, Lexington, French Lick, Osh Kosh etc and I recommend to anyone who is price consciences in a heart beat..

Agreed about Universal being a decent option for the Model A; that's what I'm using right now.

The thing is, none of our recommendations are going to be universal (pun intended) because the variables are so great--tire size and pressure, load, road surface type and condition, temperature, speed, etc.. Even if we're just considering 19" and 21" Model A tires, road condition and climate will be significant variables.

I've used many different vintage bias-ply tire brands--Lucas, Firestone, Goodyear, B.F. Goodrich, Coker, Universal, no-name--in a variety of sizes on a variety of vehicles, and none of them have appeared to be appreciably better or worse than others over the long run except possibly B.F. Goodrich Silvertown tires, which AFAIK aren't available in Model A sizes anyway.

I've been to Osh Kosh, Lexington, French Lick, and to Galena as well, all on my Vietnam made Lucas tires without any problems. I would buy them again. Doesn't Vietnam have some good American owned rubber plantations. Just ask a Vietnam vet.

Not since the trade embargo after the fall of South Vietnam in 1975; or at least, certainly not in line of succession since then. Clinton lifted the embargo in 1994, so there may be some American involvement again.

Michelin (France) owned the largest rubber plantation in Vietnam. It was the site of portions of the Tet Offensive in '68.
