ACCORDING TO FORD’S RECORDS OF DAILY PRODUCED ENGINES, THAT WERE ASSEMBLED BETWEEN JULY 9, 1928, (#236,787), AND OCTOBER 2, 1928, (#477,642), A NUMBER OF “SPECIAL EXPERIMENTAL” ENGINES WERE PRODUCED. THE RETURN OIL PIPE ASSEMBLY, A-6645, ALONG WITH THE OIL RETURN PIPE CONECTIONS ON THE BLOCK, A-6015, AND VALVE COVER CHAMBER, A-6520, WERE ALL DELETED. THE ADDITION OF OIL RETURN HOLES WERE DRILLED ON THE FLOOR OF THE VALVE CHAMBER TO ALLOW THE OIL TO DRAIN BACK INTO THE OIL PAN. EACH ENGINE HAD THE REGULAR MODEL A ENGINE NUMBER STAMPING TO INDICATE 1928 PRODUCTION. BETWEEN 1353 AND 1355 ENGINES OF THIS TYPE WERE BUILT. THESE CAN BE SUBSTANUATED BY THE “RELEASE” DATA OF APRIL 23, 1928 FOR EACH SPECIFIC PART AND THOSE FEW WHICH HAVE BEEN DOCUMENTED TODAY. ONE ENGINE NUMBER WHICH HAS BEEN DOCUMENTED SO FAR IS #286,625 (JULY 29, 1928). I AM SURE THERE ARE LOTS OF OTHERS.
Does anyone have such a block? I need some photos for a revised article in Model A News. 1. Right side of block with valve chamber cover on the block; 2. I've heard of these blocks. Never seen one.
I think mentioned in the DeAngelis book? "The Model A as Henry Ford Built It?" He talks about it but doesn't have a pix. Joe K

Years ago, a couple of pictures were posted on the old fordbarn board of one of these engines. I had copies until my computer crashed. If someone has these, it would be nice to see a repost of them.

I have one of these blocks with the correct original side valve cover. The serial number is *A259209*, it was originally in a 1928 Tudor Sedan. The block was on display at the 2006 MARC National Meet in Grand Rapids, MI were my friend George DeAngelis gave me the history of these blocks and was very impressed with our example. Steve, if there were holes in the floor of the valve chamber, how did the mains get oil?

The block for Dad's coupe falls in this range. However it was not one of the experimental ones. I had a valve chamber cover for one, but when the old parts barn fell down it was broke. It was scrapped after that. Rod

Take pix with your cellphone if you don't have a scanner.
Actually, if this an electronic file, why not? Or put it on photobuddy.com or one of the online photo hosting sites. And then do the (img)photo url(/img) trick substitute [] for () to make this work. Joe K

Pluck, I got an oil pan in yesterday that I have never seen a dipper tray like this. It snaps in like all the rest but the baffles have ribs in them and the troughs are very small and just large enough for the dipper. the pan has the removable oil inspection plate and looks like any other early pan I have. The block was a 5 digit from Canada but might have been a US motor and was cracked so I let it go back to the customer.
