Default T rant

OK,I was bored earlier and surfing fleabay for t anything....

I looked at cars and man oh man..IM not the biggest guru or afficanato but wow.If you sell a car why would you not even know that the roadster you are selling is NOT a coupe??? OR how about the touring listed as a 3dr convertable?? I mean at least have the forethought to research what YOU are selling. Its just too bad the ignorance does not result in low prices...instead all for the most part are high as a kite!

sorry for my rant but wow!

Does the three door convertible come with the correct Ford wooden batteries? Has the car been "remachined to run on unleaded fuel"? Sometimes the ads are great entertainment.

Ditto for a lot of write-ups in many of the popular car mags!

I get upset for no reason because I would never buy something that I felt was not properly represented. But its crazy when they try to sell a car for thousand of dollars and post it with 2 pics of the car and not even bother to pull it out of the garage!

I have run into to many sellers that are just uninformed. They think they have a goldmine because of glitzy auctions and reality shows. It has become big business and they are jumping on the band wagon. Most don't research a thing. I can't tell you how many times I have suggested to $-bay sellers to at least get a pictorial parts book from Snyder's or Mac's before they list their parts. Saves a lot of aggravation and returns. If nothing else, these ads make for a good laugh. Who knows, you might find a real gem someday.

T42 has nailed it. Uninformed + TV sales. Any one that knew anything about T's wouldn't list it that way.

At car shows I find that most non-car people who like to look at the cars think that the older the car the more it is worth. Most are shocked when they find the true value of our cars.

E-bay has become what hemmings motor news was back in the 70's. Everybody that had an old car back then knew somebody that saw a car just like their's for sale in hemmings and it was for sale for ( insert your own high price here)

Plus the fact is that many of the cars for sale on e-bay are not owned by car nuts but rather by people trying to make a fast buck. Throw in all the Barret-Jackson type crap on TV and you have the perfect storm.

"investment car" NOW that is funny! I invest is autos.I have done this since I was 16 with my first truck. I have invested time, money, effort into many different autos. I do most all work so my labor is free theoretically.

I have done nothing but loose money, sleep,my sanity.

I work at a specialty auto shop and it is laughable the customers who think that they can pay to have a car doe correctly and it will be a money making venture...We are NOT shy at telling them that most times it is not going to happen. NOT many cars are nice when taken down compared to together. If a person got a rust free cherry car for FREE they might make a buck.. You have to love rookies!

Ever one as jump on the band wagon if there not shoving bondo in rust holes there just turning a buck.
Most are not even car nuts but just car flippers, there are no barn finds are little Ole Lady's car left thanks mainly to ebay and etc.
Funny most ads start with barn finds were else would you find them I saw the car Ford man is taking about estate sell. barn find. little Ole lady whats the difference.
When someone ask me what my cars are worth I usually just let out a big whoop are just say wooooo weeee and let it go at that no telling what they go off saying and telling there Friends AL

I love these people who find a scrap yard/junk yard then start selling off the junk at stupid asking prices. We have all seen that. Other thing that gets me is when people start a streetrod project, give up on it then think it's a high buck car after it is ruined and get mad after no one wants it.

I saw an authentic 1930s supe job on Ebay for sale; the guy wanted $27,000 for his queen. I wanted the car too, but not knowing anything about it I wasn't about to agree to an outrageous price. His ad said he would respond to all questions.

So I sent him a few questions about the car; and he had no answers, said all my questions were over his head, suggested I come look at the car (1000 miles from the house).

I studied the car thoroughly and sent him a build sheet based on the photographs, down to the carbs, and minute mechanical options. Then I offered him $2,000 more than the car was really worth (about $19,000). He insisted the car was worth his asking price.

Obviously, he still owns the car.

The generation that's selling this stuff is about 2 removed from the folks who saved it and enjoyed it. Clueless.
