Thanks Lawson. High price is one thing but yesterday I watched a car burn to the ground. This hose has to be cheaper AND way less scary.

I don't think it was antique, Mike. It was sort of hard to tell from the distance they had the road blocked off but it looked like modern. It was a black, charred, smokey mess. If antique I would still be crying for him.

You can make up your own flex line with ethanol resistant hose by salvaging the brass fittings from an old original flex hose, attaching new tubing to these fittings and clamping the hose at both ends with very small hose clamps. BUT by the time you do all of this and have a flex hose that looks nothing like the original, it's a good deal to get your flex hose from Gadgiteer or Gadgeteer (not sure how he spells that). His hoses look good, work well, and you may never have to worry about replacing this hose again. He sells a standard flow version and a check valve version. I have had his standard version on my car for over two years now but picked up a check valve version to see if it helps to eliminate flow back from FP to tank in my '35 fordor. If this car sits for several weeks, or more, I need to do a lot of cranking to get gas back up to carb. I'm thinking a lot of this is actually evaporation of this 10% ethanol gas from the carb fuel bowl. JMO

It seems to me that I remember reading on here awhile back that you could buy gas lines from your local parts store with the number nine ( 9 ) on it and it was good for ethanol. Having said that I put regular ole gas lines on my 57 Chev 20 years ago and have had no problems yet. I also put regular ole lines on my 40 ford, same result. Maybe I'm just lucky or just waiting for the shoe to drop.

I don't see any risk of gas leaking out of a leaky flex hose since there is never any pressure in it. If anything, there is only a vacuum created by the fuel pump sucking gas through it or gravity trying to pull the gas down out of it when the engine is off. The exception would be if you had an electric pump ahead of the flex hose. Then leakage would be a risk. Otherwise, what you get with a leaky flex hose is air sucked into the hose possibly enough to make the mechanical pump stop pumping.

Bob's flex line with the check valve is $10.00 more than the unit without. Not much more. Do you suggest going for the check valve? Seems like the thing to do! Bruce/CT

I am happy with the Shewman flex hose as I had issues with ones I had tried from the vendors and fuel pump guru .Never interested me to go with the check valve one though,to me Ford never required it and seems to me it could be a problem down the road if it ever decides to stick shut. Keep it simple.

Should be no need for a check valve in the flex hose since the stock mechanical pump has one in it.

I'm ROFLMAO about the cost complaint of the Shewman fuel line. People complain about foreign made parts and want things made in the USA. A guy makes a fuel line in the USA that is a good product and someone complains about the high price.You get what you pay for.

Hi Bruce, I don't want to tell you to spend $10.00 more for that check valve hose when you may not need it. I do think the non check valve hose is well worth having for peace of mind when you realize what this ethanol gas is doing to other rubber components in the system. I am planning to put a check valve flex hose on my fordor sedan just to see if I get any improvement in time required to get gas back into carburetor bowl after the car sits for a couple weeks or more in the garage. If I see an improvement it stays on there. I'm not that worried about the check valve failing any more than I am the other mechanical components in the gas delivery system between the tank and the carburetor. If I see an improvement with this hose I'll buy more for my other cars.

I got hosed, and it's a great handcrafted American made product. I'll work two job's to pay twice as much for something made in the USA, I still believe in American exceptionalism. Nuff Said
. ScottThe Gates "greenguard" fuel line is made for the ethanol fuel. I have changed my mower/snowthrower and gen. fuel line to the greenguard. |

Henry read the test for the valves in a Ford fuel pump. Why don't you post the test and the expected results and you will find why a GOOD valve is required. When a Ford valve is good if it leaks pressure down to zero in one or two minutes I wonder what a bad valve looks like? G./M.
