You're so right Gumpy. I can't help but wonder how many younger guys (and gals) would be into older tin if more was available to them at the right price. Its all very well being a collector (parts & cars) but wouldn't it be just as satisfying seeing it on the road and being used as it was intended for? Please don't get me wrong, I'm not knocking collectors (or hoarders) but I often wonder who will carry the torch for our passion if we don't give them the real opportunity to experience it. I live by what goes round comes round, and its never proven me yet. Maybe its time to share the wealth, albeit old cars and stuff?

I really love and enjoy my black 40 Std coupe - so, over the years I've collected "extras" for that just-in-case scenario since these parts are not always easy to get when you need them: front fenders, pair of doors, rear fenders, 2 hoods, and I've been looking for another trunk lid (hard to find) but now I ask myself why? If I get hit, insurance will cover the cost of new re-pop parts from Bob Drake. Yes, I know original is better than repop but for the driver quality cars I like to build, I'm starting to second-guess myself about hoarding/collecting the parts I would need if I get hit.

Secondly, and I've said this before on this forum, my kids are not into my cars and my last hope is my grandson and granddaughter. I do have a Plan B if they are not so I know the cars will not be sold by my kids for pennies on the dollar - they will go to good homes, true lovers of old cars just like we are.

Well said.
I had wanted my sons to be able to use the 12 Buick for their proms- well that was several years
back and never happened. Car is still sitting there.
Maybe one of their weddings someday? (car still isn't running though....)

I am on first name at the Junkyards in a 100 miles area. They even call me when they get my type of junk.

It's hard not to hoard a little. I've saved a few cars from the crusher and plenty of parts. But I swap for things I need. And I always pick up $100 flatheads when I see them.

I'll always pick up grilles and taillights if the price is right so I don't have to go crying to my insurance company every time my car gets bumped. But I can always get fenders and doors so I don't have a pile of those.
