Default AV8 alternate to using a '32 K member?

What are some ways to mount a traditional Early V8 drive line in a Model A without using a '32 K member? I know an F1 crossmember works out well, but are there other choices? Got photos? Thanks!!

Steel is traditional …. make something. Wouldn’t it be nice to remove the trans without taking the motor lose anyway?

Not using the 32 k-member is a good idea if you want to use anything other than an early Ford 3-speed. If a 5 speed is on the cards the K-member needs so much cutting it's not worth using.

Hi Bassman, just wondering, was it not possable to make a mount on the other side for the park brake? I narrowed the body to follow the frame rails so you have more room down there than I do, just wondering if it was still comfortable like that. I thought making up the park brake was more of a pain than making pedal & bellcrank mounting.

I made the bellcrank set up in one of the above pics because I'm a miserable sod and only use what's cheap or free. The pedal assy was free so I had to work around it. I had a pair of Speedway rear spring hanger brackets lying around, so I used that and it's teflon bushings as the basis of the crank. Works fine after some tweaking. I better add I'm using the V8 park brake cable system.

Pete,
Look in my "Profile" and I have a couple of pics of my frame. I left the stock "A" cross member and added the "x" from pieces from a 48 frame. Works for me.

I wanted to use the stock A crossmember too, and made a couple of different trans mounts, but they were not to my liking, so I built the one you see. If I was to do it again I would persevere with the stock crossmember.

In ,64 I put a C59A in a A chassie by useing a 37 X member.I had to notch & lower the centre section to have the right height for the ball socket for the lengthened radius rods.I also used stock steering by welding on a steering mounting section from a junk frame & then cutting out part of original frame in order to move steering box over to clear V8.

Thanks guys! When spring comes, I'm gonna have to drag out my "mock up" frame (the one in my avatar,) A rear, '48 pedals, trans case and a trans mount to see where everything is. Then, I'll go from there.

you can Use a 33/34 "K" member which will also allow you to use the wishbone you just have to do a little fab work to both the "K" member and the mounte for the 3 speed btu simple really.

cut the rails of the "K"member to allow them to taper up to the "A"frame

weld them up

I like the model 40 sliced X member best, looks good with real Henry parts.

Posted a few more pics today of my AV8 project. You can see more of the rear portion of my "X", which I tied into the frame at the point I cut the "Z" in it.

Pete,
What did you end up doing with the '32 style AV8 K-member you fabricated?
Not going with a flathead on your project?

The AV8 project I was working on got put on back burner this year due to working on my brother's '32. Then, he expressed interest in doing another A and I was looking for options to avoid cutting up the original K member that I had bought a while ago and built the new K to avoid cutting it up. (I also have a fondness for motors painted up like '52 flat heads. I have one in my fiberglass bodied coupe.)

Pete-
The other thing to consider if your using an early Ford V-8, without stating the obvious, is the pedal selection. That goes hand in hand with k/member, trans mount. We used a set of '32 pedals as per Vern's B-T roadster and it was a nice fit, but they're getting hard to find and $. I know some guys like to use a '39 pedal set up, but you loose most of the driver side part of the k-member going that way.
