It would be interesting to see how they tagged the lower fender back into the running board. Tim

Here is another Australian 1944 Ford Truck with those Fender Extensions?
It is not a one off change as we have proven with various trucks with these features.

Ford generally only made one cab to fit all types but as the size got larger, so to the wheels tires and springs. Granted, I'm not referring to any truck but conventional types even though many COE trucks used the same basic cab. The wide fenders were made for BIG trucks. The Big fenders needed to have either wider front bull nose or the mod we see there.

Ford made some low production stuff but the 1.5-ton 798T was relatively common for the year of 1947. Anything larger could have been an outsource modification for some special contract. I would think that would have been military related with all wheel drive and fat desert type tires but I have seen no documentation. Just the same two photos posted here. The real BIG Jobs F7 and F8 came out in the bonus built years starting 1948 but they were monkey face types.

Post Script: I found this one that seems to be on the Australian-New Zealand area of the world. As was previously mentioned, this may have been for BIG trucks made for work in that neck of the woods. Ford with Thornton drive dual tandem would explain the mod.
