I have a ‘37 hood ornament which is made from die cast metal and the base is broken. Does anyone know who might be able to repair it and then replate it? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It probably would be less expensive to buy a used one and get it replated.

Jay, contact barnfind08, Fred Willner, I got one from him a year ago and I thought he had more. It would need replated to be perfect, but it is all in one piece.

GUYS
A "Total" guess here but "MY" read between the lines of Jay's post...I would "suspect" he's not talking about the "standard - stock" hood ornament......OR more likely one of the "rare" accessory variants (OR Locking original)!!!! Just my hunch!!! Otherwise GOOD standard ole' originals are NOT too difficult to find and or replace, right???? Last edited by rockfla; 05-12-2026 at 02:13 PM. |

It’s a locking one as you surmised. The top has already been plated and is beautiful. Here are pictures of the troublesome piece. Petehoovie has a picture of the entire piece.

v8fordman:
Here's some info. that will help. The plater will want to weld it to assure it is a good solid platable weld. Here's a good example. https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/....992382/page-2 https://www.google.com/search?q=what...hrome&ie=UTF-8 Here's a few platers who can fix your hood ornament. https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/...rs&o=relevance Several years ago I had Chrome Plater Josh in Indiana repair and chrome plate an expensive broken pot metal horn ring. Turned out excellent. Open thread below and scroll down to Chrome Plater Josh thread. Give them a call. You will be pleased with his work. https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/.../#post-3936114 Here's the horn ring he welded and plated. https://www.fordbarn.com/forum/showt...steering+wheel Last edited by 19Fordy; 05-12-2026 at 06:13 PM. |

Advannced plating in TN did a broken 33-34 Ford die cast garwood skirt emblem for me years ago, turned out like jewelry. The issue was they had it 4 months, and the cost was $500.00
