Good news for people with 2 tooth boxes. How about casting up some new housings for those of us who don't have one lying around. I fear even with a rebuild the 7 tooth will still not equal a fresh 2 tooth.

In my opinion, you are correct. A well adjusted and fresh 2-tooth is absolute magic. Steve Houghtaling's Town Car I drove at MAFFI's Model A Days last year is proof how just how nice a very well done 2-tooth can be.

As for housings... Come by and grab one. I have plenty.

Thanks for the info. Much more useful than having to watch a video or go to another site to find out the details.

In the link in post #2, it says the Argentine firm that used to make them has started again.

I've got plenty of 2-tooth housings up on eBay if you need one (or two!)

Can you convert a 7 to a 2 with just the housing and the shaft/sector? Don’t you need the correct column too?

Yes, you need the column also. ModelAsteering.com site suggests the parts to rebuild a 7-tooth are coming soon. Does not say you can convert a 7-tooth to a 2-tooth.

I'm aware of that, but it seemed like some of the commenters might have gotten the idea that you could swap the bottom end and the shaft and turn a 7-tooth into a 2-tooth. Wanted to clarify that wasn't true.

Does anyone see a phone # or how to by one of these steering boxes on their website?
I see no contact info at all?

It took me at least 10 years to find a 2-tooth column and box for my 29 Pickup and that was at least 10 years ago. I used to go to Hershey, Chickasha, Oklahoma and other places near N.Illinois. I have what I need and other stuff that others need. I wish there was a place that had a good swap meet in E. Tennessee where I could sell some of my stuff.

I was too cheap to buy one for the asking price and then have to overhaul it so I converted the longer 1930 unit to the 29 length. It was a fair amount of work but even an overhaul is that. The steering shaft can be purchased new when available. I think I removed a little more than 13/16" from the column jacket and the control lever rods. I used the same type of lever quadrant as the early 2-tooth but I don't know what column it was removed from. It may have been from a 7-tooth unit. I've heard a person mention that they used a 7-tooth column with the lower end cut off but I don't know how well that would work. I wasn't born in Missouri but my Grandmother was. I shortened mine from the top. Shortening the bottom may also require trimming the top but I've never done that trick.
