Default LeBaron Bonney T-14 Top Material

Where can a friend who is restoring a 1932 Roadster find some scraps of this material to complete his top. This material is not available since LeBaron Bonney went into bankruptcy in March 2019. This material has a greenish exterior and a tan color on the interior. He only needs enough to finish his side curtains and quarter windows. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks 40larry

Not a source but there was a long thread about this including top material sample color.

Larry, this material has been GONE for years upon years. At one time both David Rehor and myself had each purchased a large roll of it from Lebaron for our personal restorations.
I hate to suggest this, but I believe the chances of your friend finding enough is zero or perhaps none.

Glenn, I STILL have not found a CLOSE enough match to the Roadster leather seat material Mr. Rehor sent me the sample piece of, (when, last year or so)!

I have talked, (email-phone) to just about every leather material supplier in the world! Mailed out boo-coo sample pieces of David Rehor's seat material, that I have lost track. Same way with the top material! I haven't found a close enough match.

It was last summer, I had to quit searching. I was showing symptoms of 3rd stage of old fartism! Also, I was arguing (cussing out) with the little voices. (that is bad! Especially in public! )

It may be that 100% correct restorations are a thing of the past. If your friend wants it all original you are going to have to make concessions and that's all there is to it.

That being said convertible top material from the big dollar foreign car market might satisfy him. For my avatar, and yes it is not a restored car, I have used boaters canvas. It's strong, durable, fire retardant , and top upholstery shops can work with it. I also believe you can dye it.

Mind you, these are just suggestions but I hope he can find something that will be suitable. Good luck ....

Looks like this is the current situation and unlikely to change IMHO

Are you certain about this? For years, Eric Haartz in Mass has been the manufacturer of T-14, and Mike Francis at Classtique was/is the dealer for it. If you click on this link ( https://www.classtiqueupholstery.com...are-yard-goods ) and scroll down about 13 or 14 products, I think you will find T-14 offered.

Now whether it matches the old L/B fabrics is unknown, but do understand that many of the materials & products that L/B offered were incorrect. Mike has been working with Bill Sturm on seeking authentic patterns & materials.

Few of the old original fabrics have ever been offered in the modern era. The basic reasoning is that the original stuff was OK for the time but would be considered crap in the modern era. The best you can do is to purchase a modern material that is at least close to the color and texture of the originals. This give you a product that looks OEM but will last a lot longer than OEM. Haartz doesn't list the T14 on their site but it is a product of their classic vehicle materials so production is limited enough that the price is higher than other materials available.
