Default With sad news , another old ford owner has passed

My good friend and neighbor has passed . He is / was the extremely proud owner of a 2 owner 39 original deluxe coupe and a 31 A coupe . I’ve been asked to find new caretakers for both and his 69 mustang fast back. He drove these every week . I went to his house yesterday and wanted to start the coupes . His son inlaw tried to start the 39 the day of his services, aprx 5 days ago . He left the ignition switch on … so much for that idea . I’m charging the battery now and am praying the coil is okay . The A started easy .
Jim has been a flea market vendor for 30 plus years , especially Hershey , a member of the V-8 club and more . A navy man on an Aircraft carrier in the late 60s .
Now I need help . I’ve searched the current asking and actual sale price on the cars . It seems to be from the $30,000 plus for the 39 and its all over the place for the A . I know pictures are needed . The 39 is so clean you could eat off it . All original, lightly restored by Jim in the mid 70s . I believe it to be the original paint , except one fender .
Gentlemen, I’m fairly new to this group and really respect the group’s knowledge and character of its members . It’s sad , this is the 4th friend that families have asked me to help with the disposal of the automotive collection.
I know pictures first but I’ll need help , someone willing to accept my email pictures and post them here . Just need help with aprx value .
I might suggest to the family a reputable auction site ?
As a side note, he wants them to remain original. I told his family the only way I could guarantee that is if I bought the 39 .
Thanks all , Gary

So sorry for the loss of your friend. From your comments it's obvious Jim was a fine person and will be greatly missed. It's nice of you to step in and handle the sale of his cars. As you know, the family must realize that there's no guarantee a buyer will keep them original, even if they say they will. Hope things go well. I hope you are able to get lots of photos posted in the FOR SALE SECTION.

Sorry for the loss of your friend. Good luck with helping his family.

To avoid what happened to the 39, I have left detailed instructions about how to start my cars and what to do and what not to do. Hope he didn't fry the coil. Good luck.

Cars are down the street , yes in Florida. Thanks guys for the kind words .
Someone suggested the 69 mustang was worth $90,000 , Politely I informed them it isn’t that kind of mustang . Don’t get me wrong , it looks like it rolled off the production line last year ,but it isnt a 4 speed big block . Stock , clean v-8 fastback .
I have since written detailed instructions for starting all the cars , brief history and aprx value . I also marked all the keys . Noted where all the kill switches and electric fuel pump switch is . Still working on the last item

If the switch was left ON and by some stroke of luck the points were open, the coil might be okay.

It would be a "stroke of luck"! In my experience either the coil is ruined, or the points are fried or maybe both. My fingers are crossed for you.

Sorry for the loss of your friend, my condolences to the family. Good luck with the sale. Maybe the folks at Ragtops can give you an estimate, or interest in the cars. I know they take cars on consignment .

I agree beautiful '39 looks really nice.

I'm sorry to hear your friend passed away, late 60's service period would make him a Vietnam vet. Those guys were /are just as great as the WWII, Greatest Generation. I've never met one that was not VERY patriotic and believed in this great country of ours.

It's hard to nail down a value for old cars. I've found that Old Cars Price Guide is about the most accurate. People have to be realistic when they judge the condition of the cars. There is a good lead-in page on what the condition actually would be rated.

For example many people rate their cars as 'Mint, Number 1' The Price Guide will explain that is almost no cars in the whole country that is a very very rare condition. # 2 is more in line with a 'perfect in every way' car, but #3 condition is where almost all cars fall, the kind you see at car shows. Occasional drivers, but still very very nice.

That being said, and we own a '69 Mach 1 M-code 4spd. California black plate car, ..... It is very desirable but no way it is a $90,000 car. Those price ranges are reserved for #2 condition Boss 302's . It all depends on the shape of your friend's car, and the drivetrain obviously. if the car is a 302 2bbl. it isn't worth all that much. A six cylinder heaven forbid, even much less.

Thanks . I took pics and started his mustang today . 302 2 bl 4 spd . Clean but like you say , and I agree , not rare . Prices are still all over the place .
Narrowing down the 39 value is even harder , fewer being sold .
Thanks again , Gary

Does anyone know of a 39 deluxe coupe in aprx condition that has sold recently, say in the last 2 years? If so could you please list a link or post what it sold for or message me .
Thanks , Gary

Didn’t one of the Aussie members buy a real nice 39 or 40 coupe in the last couple of years and had it shipped down under? Maybe someone else will remember that car.
