Default Brown Staining on Whitewalls

The brand new AMER CLASSIC RADIAL - 475/500-19 WW tires I bought have brown stains in the whitewall that standard cleaners (kitchen cleanser and brillo pads) will not remove. These tire were purchased last December and left with their shipping wrappers intact until yesterday when I mounted them. There are warnings about not allowing the "black to touch the white" given, but this certainly was not the case here. Was I sent a batch of blems? Has anyone else had this problem, if so what was the resolution?

I have had good luck with Bleach White on my American Classic tires. See https://www.amazon.com/Black-Magic-1.../dp/B004YZUK02. Do this outside and use personal protection. You will have to rinse off the material after brushing it. Also cleans the wheels and black parts of the tire.

Lay the tire down and Let a 50/50 mix of bleach and water sit on the spot for 5 minutes or so then scrub and rinse .
If that doesn't work try sanding that area with some 320 wet sandpaper . The sanding will not damage the tire.
That will remove the stained area and expose the clean surface underneath provided the stain hasn't gone too deep.

Thank you both, I will give it a go. I am concerned that this could be bleeding from behind. How deep do you suppose does the white compound go?

Contact Amer Classic Radial and ask them.

Are these import tires or brand name ? My firestones don"t seem to have that problem.

I switched from Firestone white walls to the American Classic whitewall radials last spring. I am not happy with the whitewalls at all. They blemish seemingly just by looking at them. Finger prints, road crud, you name it are very difficult to remove and there are brown streaks (like the ones shown) that have appeared out of nowhere. Like the OP, I made sure that the whitewalls never came into contact with anything at all before mounting. Bleachwhite would normally take these marks off when I had the Firestones, but remain difficult to impossible with these. Yes, I get better road handling out of the radials, but the issues around keeping white walls white is making it seem like I made the wrong choice.

I had the same problem on a spare tire that was a Firestone. The only thing I could get to remove the staining was lacquer thinner. It didn’t cause any problems with the Firestones BUT it did remove a thin layer of the white so beware and test a small area.

What has been learned: Coker who manufacturers this tire in Tenn specifically states not to use bleach white on their tires. The man from their technical support group specified Mr Clean "magic eraser" or "simple green" to clean white walls. Results were marginal, I consider them unacceptable for what they cost

He went on to say that the tire can develop stains in the white wall over time. He was not surprised with my claim and did offer to replace the affected tires. That is until I told him that I bought the tires through Summit Racing. I looked into this orders details and saw that they pulled two tires from one warehouse, the other two from a second warehouse. Two tires which have the same date code are affected by these stains, the other two having the same date code (one week later than the first two) are as white and nice as could be. I do believe that this problem is heat related over time. Both warehouses were in Nevada which is plenty hot, but I do not know the status of their climate controls in the two locations. This is all speculation of course but I also know that coincidence is controlled by circumstance, not chance.

I will call summit tomorrow and see if they will show the same responsiveness that the manufacturer did....

Summit has agreed to send two new tires, hopefully they will be good ones. These two tires would forever be a problem, I demounted them tonight for return for warranty and the stains a noticeably more prominent than they were last night.....

The same thing happened with my American Classic Radials in about 6 months after purchase. I like the tires, but I’m extremely disappointed in the white walls.

Look at the same tires a couple of days later......The only thing done was attempt to clean them in the manner prescribed by the manufacturer. Are they all going to get this way?? Kind of unsettling isn't it?? Look at the edges of the white label, also turning brown....

Whitewalls turned yellow back in the 1950s & 1960s when they were current. Black-walls ooze the same yellow-brown stuff too. I use 303 Protectant to remove the ooze.

I've pressure washed the whitewalls on my cycle. Have to be careful because you can damage them. The white comes as clean as new. Use a fan tip, only get as close as needed to clean.
