Nice original condition bug but I doubt anyone will be willing to cover that amount. It does draw in the viewers to the ad though.

Rudy was an interesting guy, into cars and old radios. The car is for real as is the story of how and why he got it. $1M might be high but seeing the prices on restored VW's, maybe not. Time will tell.

I paid $1200 for my 1966 VW with 4,000 miles on it. The original owner had health problems and sold it because he could no long work the clutch pedal and had ruined the clutch. I took it in for sevicing and the dealer told me they replaced the clutch for me under warranty! Not sure current VW dealers would do that today.

That car has been known in old VW circles for years.I had never seen a picture of it before.I have no idea how you would price a car like that,there are no comps,or like sales to go by.I sold an early bus in the mid 70's,I got $500.for it.It was in way above average condition,too nice for me.I just needed a $100.bus to bang around in.The guy that bought it from me sold it in 07 for $45,000.I sold a 61 Corvette in 1977,I got $3500.for it.That guy sold it in the late 90's for $47,500.I sold it to buy the land I'm living on right now.That $3500.piece of land is now appraised at $180,000,so I guess the car values didn't go up by that much.

I found a simple interest calculator online, and plugged in the $1756 he originally paid. At 11.81 percent interest over 54 years, compounded monthly, the total amount grew to $1,001,506.62. I remember getting 7 or 8 percent on a savings account in the early 80's, but I'd hate to see the inflation we would have to account for an 11 percent rate.....

$1 million! Maybe a cashed up VW enthusiast would buy that but how many VW junkies have that sort of money? I bet it goes "home" to Germany. Where are you going to find another one? They don't make them any more and as time goes by (unless someone adds miles to it) it will become an even greater curiosity.

In all those years in storage, how did they keep it dust free. It looks like it was stored n a regular garage. Did they never crank the motor to keep it lubed? Is it the original oil in the crank case?
