stunning day. August 22, 1956 very sad as Daddy passed and I had to sell the car. August 22, 2017, and the 40Merc came home.
I still thrill almost a year later https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FRrfXebA6pI |

I can only imagine your joy. It is a beautiful car, congratulations.
There must be a story behind the 61 year absence, and finding it again. |

Only V/8 people can imagine your joy being reunited with an old friend! Great story and great video it's usually so chopped up that it is hard to watch. Will you take it to Dearborn in June? Bill

Clem, I believe there is a "Body Number" tag on the firewall??? It's been quite a while since I have looked at our Merc. My dad bought ours around 1970.....Its been a "project" in waiting unfortunately all these years....been collecting parts and pieces all along. It was saved from becoming a Street Rod!! I have seen several throughout the years, yours is one of the nicest I've seen!!! I absolutely love the color. I can't remember if ours is 971 or 979 as we have a 1939 Mercury Club Coupe and one is 971 and the other is 979...either way our 40 is one of the last Conv. Sedans!!! |

Clem, a wonderful story!!! How fortunate, too, that your car "survived" so well from 1956 to last year when you found her again!!! (Could have been lots of "dangers" in between!!!)

Congrats on finding your Dad's car! Bob & Mary Aufderheidi were in our regional group (141) here in Ohio. Mary still belongs. I have known the car for a good while and been with Bob when he showed the car at various events. Have fun with it!

My first pass I don't find a number. The repo patent plate is there.
I met Bob once and we had a nice chat. I know Mary only thru the internet and phone. Great folks. I gave him tail lights rims I had. So sad that he and his son passed. Serial number is 99A-173164 |

Lovely Merc Clem and nice to meet you. you can get a lot of womans in that car. The 40 Merc sure is a pretty car, that sharp prow is far more stylish than the initial year, the epitome of the buggy sprung Mercs in my opinion.
