Thank you all for your posts, diagrams and photos. Couple of photos of the vertical drilling in the 59L block on the Bridgeport. #1 photo is the setup.
The 59L has a pronounced boss where the intersecting hole is drilled for the return. #2 photo. The head on the Bridgeport was tilted to drill that intersecting hole that is at an angle on the 59L. The last photo is a diagram of the drilled holes, and location of the set screw overlaid on the block photo. There was some confusion between a 59 and 8BA block as to the location of the new return hole, and jig. A jig would have come in handy drilling the horizontal hole for the 3/8 pipe thread as that was a pain with the hand drill. |

Looking for suggestions on where to mount the remote spin off filter on a '40 Coupe. Preferably where you can change the filter without to much of a mess. Thank you Fordbarners. That Bridgeport was found in scrap metal yard, and was bought for scrap. It worked fine initially for my stuff, but I eventually had some bearing, pulley and belt work done on it.

On my '38, your '40 should be similar, I mounted it on the outside of the frame rail under the left front fender. It is convenient to change, and more importantly to me, the lines to/from the filter are below the ports on the engine so the oil in the lines doesn't drain back into the engine to have to be refilled at startup.

On my 39 I have it mounted under the left front fender behind the fender brace.

I also mounted mine behind the left frt wheel. Hangs at a 45 degree angle.Has worked fine for several yrs and makes a neat setup under the hood.
