Dip in ferric chloride for about 10 seconds, remove and rinse. Boom instant patina.

I usually concern myself with the combustion chamber shape and the clearance over the valves and pistons. I don't much care what they look like, I worry about performance.

I used to just hang stuff in my garage (aka the wonderful world of corrosion) until I was ready to run it. I think possum urine was the secret, but I aint saying' for sure

My secret is a mixture of Cat Pee and Raccoon Turds . . . . gives a kind of yellowish-blown patina look. But the smell! LOL

Not sure what the ingredient is but Castrol super clean will turn aluminum to gray. The longer it's in it the darker it get. I wouldn't recommend for machined surfaces, it will take a layer of skin off if you don't wear gloves.

Yup, possum fat and urine !
However, the 'best' at screwing up ...er patinaing aluminum...is mouse piss !! Caveat..when left on tooo long, it will eat alum into oxide/pits
