I couldnt get mine to tune will and tried for some time . Sold it on e bay as a core and bought a ford dissy with vacuum from Babba . Fires and runs great . Everyone advise not to because of the mult. carb. Set up ....

It is a bit hard to understand for sure what Step-down is referring to. Saying he was advised by many people that his distributor selection wouldn't work with dual carbs it sounded like he was talking about a stock style vacuum only unit. It won't work on manifold vacuum, that is why I ask the question. The carb is specifically designed with internal passages to control the distributor.

If he is referring to a Bubba converted Chevy distributor with both centrifugal and vacuum controls then it would have to be connected to manifold vacuum. But then why would anyone suggest it wouldn't work with dual carbs?

Are you saying you've fitted a stock loadamatic with dual carbs? That's what it sounds like.
It can and has been done, (loadamatic and multiple carbs) it'll start fine and run, some may think it runs great, depends on what your comparing it with. Compared to a properly curved mechanical or mechanical with vacuum ignition, it's really not good. The loadamatic will not advance in a the correct curve that's required for correct performance if not connected to the correct carb in a stock situation.
A correct advance curve will make an engine come alive!
That's a fact.
Martin.

The orginal question was regarding the use of a pertronix for the orginal old school Mallory YC distributor for the flathead v8.
This distributor is mechanical advance ( some did use the vac piston as well) and is typically prefect curved for the flathead. They run very nice in the flatheads and look like they belong there . Usually a good clean and lube and they are prefect for the engine. The addition of the Pertronixs unit makes it even nicer...

More Mallory info from our site , we love them !!!
