Not a flathead V8

Went to a car show today with my A, in comes a nice 40-41 Ford p/up, black, yellowed wide whites. It parks and I give it a once over and return to my chair as driver had left. A little later I see he's back and I wander over and the basic exchange starts: Nice truck (it was), etc. Ask if it's a flathead and stock? Opens hood and there sits the stock FOUR cyl. Unbelieveeble. Nice, neat, detailed.
I've heard/read about them but never seen one.
Cross one more off the bucket list.

35 yr's ago I was working in a machine, 40 pickup pulled in the yard, just came out of the paint shop, shined like black diamond, talking to the guy he said this is what I like about it, opened the hood there was that 4cyl tractor engine. The only one I've seen in person. Walt

I saw one years ago at a car show in Ohio with a four cylinder engine. Owner said it was a tractor engine and it left the factory that way.

It is the same basic engine with a different pan, front timing gear cover, functional boss for the fuel pump and functional boss in the head for a water temp gauge sender.

1941 pickups had the tailgate stamped with "Ford" only. Earlier PUs had "V 8" with the Ford. The reason that the V 8 was omitted was that now ford offered the V 8, a 6 cylinder and the 4 cylinder.

Does anyone know what bearings were used in these engines? Babbitt, or insert? Or?

I would think it would have the same bearings as the 9N and 8N, the first 9N came out in 1939, I think the 8N came out in 1948, I've built many many of them. Walt
