That is a nice kit ! I built several over the past decades. It was first produced in mid '62 , I got my first one for Christmas that year , when I was all of 6 yrs. old . I couldn't tell you how many I've built since , but I do plan to put one together in the next few yrs. Have fun !

The Amt kit shown is copyright 2002 and although the box art indicates a 36 Ford 5W Coupe the front windshield bottom corners are pointed, not round and top of the cowl is from the 34 Ford kit.
If you want an accurate 36 Ford 5W Coupe you should find a Dick Tracy kit that was based on the first ever 5W body made by Mill City Replicas. Amt had the resin body to make the Dick Tracy kit, but for some unexplained reason they did not use it in their future kits. The kits produced from 62 and later to 1990 all were 3W/Roadster kits. Thanks |

No telling how much damage we did to ourselves messing with the glue back then.

I did the same. Those kits stoked my interest in antique cars. I have wondered who was behind deciding what kits to produce? Most of my all time faves, but as a result of the kits I bought than the other way around.

I loved building models as a kid and still do on occasion. I can't believe the prices they get for a 1/24 scale kit now days. Hobby lobby and various other hobby shops charge upwards of 25.00 now. Growing up in the early eighties I would mow my neighbors lawn for Five bucks and immediately run to the drug store and buy a kit when finished. They were about 4.00 to 5.00 bucks then.
You can hardly find them in the big chain or drug stores now. |

I built a lot of those models back then too. I was born in 47 so I was of the car crazy age in the early '60's. If we pedaled our bikes way across town we could get the $1.49 kits for 99 cents at Evanoff's. I remember the 36 Ford kits were molded in grey and the 32 and 40 Fords were in black. I built bunches of those 32s!
Frank, there was a 33 2 door sedan kit available not real long ago (5-10 years I suppose). Maybe they are still around. It was AMT I believe. |

If you are looking for 33 or 34 Ford AMT model kits, check out modelroundup.com.
They have many kits that are no longer available at local hobby shops. |

The title of this post reminds me of a friend of mine that said he buys National Geographic and Playboy for the same reason: Places I'm never gonna go, and things I'm never gonna see.

Does anyone remember when Testors came out with a model masters (I think that was the name) line of paint and supplies?
I use to go ape over that stuff. They were colors that went over and above the standard line of color choices and offered colors like aluminum, English leather, magnesium, all different type of cool, flat Army drab colors. I blew a lot of model money on these paints. I still have a bunch of them. |

My Brother and I would build jalopies out of the model cars and then pretend we were the "Hardy Boys" as we drove them around the bedroom!

Nice! I learned the physics of overspray painted more than one model in my room. Not realizing I was painting the floor and everything else around it. Didn't Ed Roth have a line of model paints at one time? |
