Default 1931 Widebed Pickup dispatch box & hood clip?

Should the hood clip on the top of the black truck radiator shell be painted, or is it nickel or cad plated? This is the retainer for the front of the top hood rod.

Does anyone know the exact location for the dispatch box on a 1931 Widebed Pickup? Dimensions from panel edge, etc. Thanks

Tom,

Don't lnow. Maybe LeBaron Bonney, 800 221-5408, lebaronbonney.com, or Mack Products, (660) 263-7444, wwwmackhils.com would have the info. Post if you get an answer since I will have the same question for my narrow bed '31 RDPU.

For a 1930-31 truck it is the open ended box installed on the passenger side cowl upholstery panel at about a 45 degree angle just under the gas tank. The truck driver stored his dispatch paperwork in this box. I don't know what they did in '28-29 open trucks but I think the dispatch box in the '28-'29 closed cab was near the drivers shoulder (please correct me if I am wrong as I don't know that much about the earlier trucks).

Tom, Is the dispatch location the same as the early 31 small bed? I have a late feb ccpu, and can give you those dimensions. Bob

That's what I was figuring it was. I still have my original panel with dispatch box attached. I'll dig it out tomorrow, it's a bit rough panel wise but the box is in great shape. See if I can get some measurements and pic's posted.

Right, I knew where it was mounted, but was looking for the exact location, such as the bottom corner is x inches up from the floor and y inches from the door post, and the top rear corner is z inches from the door post. This would give me an exact location.

And I'm wondering about the front hood hinge retainer finish? Thanks

O.K I'll see if I can describe this cause I haven't been able to get a pic as of yet. Measuring from the firewall edge of the panel toward the post. The boxes top rear flange hole is 4 1/2" from the firewall. The top box flange corner lines up with the top of the panel where it curves under the gas tank. If I lay a straight edge where the cut out for the tank is it matches up with the top box edge. Is it clear as mud so far ? The hole in the lower flange closest to the door post is 3 1/4" from the panel edge. The lower hole on same flange is 7 1/4" from panel edge. Sorry these are the only reference points I have. Most of the panel is gone. Hope this helped somewhat.

Tom: on my original late Feb 1931 ccpu the measurements you asked for are as follows:
a. floor to very bottom of mounting flange(this is the corner of the dispatch box*) is 7 ".
b. from this point to the door post is 9".
c. horizontally from top right corner* of db to the door post is 3 1/4".
d. from top right corner to the floor is 11 3/8"(I added this).
I checked my huckster with a reproduction db on the kick panel. The measurements for it are:
a. 7 1/8"
b. 8 1/2"
c. 3"
d. 11 1/2".
* I measured from the corner of the box, not to the corner of the flange.Hope this gives you what you need. Bob
