Default Carb Re-Building Question

What kind of tips are there to blow, pop, pull or shoot the little ball that's stuck in the carb chamber? I've soaked and marinated it for about a week with not luck.

Davo.... Can you get a strong magnet down in the spot, as I think the little ball is steel and a magnet will draw the ball out , just a thought.. D.

What if you got a drill bit down in there just smaller than the tube that it's in and see if that will dislodge it, or, ultimately dissintigrate it?

Get your self a long needle tip for your blow gun hooked to a good hi-pressure compressor and try to blow out from the corner passage in the float bowl.I slam them down on a plank of heavy wood sometimes it will come out that way.It must come out and be free to fall out on its own when turned upside down. Ive also as last resort carefully drilled out the lead ball plug the front one [2 lead plugged holes] at the bottom of the AP chamber on the outside of the carb. That passage leads to the under side of the ball.Use a pick with the very end bent upwards slightly, its a bitc* to get out. Good luck, let me know if it comes out? ken ct. Do not try to drill out the ball, bad advice.

I've got a dumb question. Did you take the clip out that holds the ball in ?

Thanks for all the great replies. The first carb I did, I almost shot my eye out with the ball shooting out when I put the carb cleaner nozzle extension in the corner passage in the float chamber. This one's a little more stuck!

I'm with KenCt on this one with trying to knock it out by slamming down on a piece of wood. Used to work on getting out small valves on A/T valve bodies. Like your mother said "Be careful or you'll put your eye out"

Ditto on Ken. I've also drilled out the lead plug and attacked them from the bottom.

Davo,
Ditto again with Ken ct. Do not even think about using any readily
available epoxy to seal things up....the corn gas will gobble the epoxy up real
quick. Most us have those little lead balls should you need one.....no joke intended.

You can use split shot fishing sinkers,or shot gun pellet or a .177 air rifle pellet or a piece of solder your choice is varied. ken ct lol. Give us an up date on this, this is funny. Welcome to the frustrations of a rebuilder.

Thanks for all the help guys. The ball finally broke lose and she's rebuilt. I guess marinading it for three weeks and a shot of air is the trick??

40ford, This is the check valve in the Accelerator Pump. It must operate freely to supply an increased flow of gasoline when you put the pedal to the metal. Together with the Power Valve, the fuel flow matches the engine's need with simple technology.

When the accel pump comes up it creates a vacume under the pump and lifts the ball up filling the chamber under the pump with gas from the bowl. When you mash on the accel pedal it goes from under the pump through that other hole down there w/o a ball in it to the passage under the "Y" shaped squirter delivering gas into the venturies. Best i can explain it.The ball acts as a 1 way check valve and must be free to move up and down and must seal the gas when in down position. It dosn't have to be replaced but new one comes in kits so why not.Their so small its hard to see if its got a grove on it or pitted up so i buy them at a bearing outlet by weight like a 1/4 lb of them.Theres hundreds of them in a 1/4 lb of them. ken ct.
