I have a JEGS 555-159068 Universal Marine Electric Fuel Pump 12V [6-8 PSI 72 GPH electric fuel pump on my '73 Ford 302. It runs constantly with power applied. It does not turn off when it reaches a certain pressure. When first turned on, the output pressure is 4 psi which is good for my carb, Edelbrock 1406. Yeah I know the specs say 6-8 psi. The gauge is a $22 Boltigen Fuel Pressure Gauge. After 10 mins of powered on and running without the engine running, the output psi, on the pressure gauge drops to zero. I don't know if this is to be expected as fuel is not flowing through the pump, and it is overheating, or the pump is bad. Any other electric pump I have owned shuts off at a certain pressure if fuel is not flowing through. Maybe I should actually run the engine while the pump is running. I will, but I thought I would ask here first. Thanks

Hello Have no answers. If it is rebranded pump sold by Jegs, their tech dept. should have answer to that question. Summit does but make sure you talk to a TECH person, sales people cannot be trusted. I had questions about summit fuel pressure regulator, got some bad advice from sales people. Have a blue holley pump, it never shut off, has a built in relieve valve, but must use a return line from regulator to tank.

Thanks for the advice. I ran the boat for at least 10 minutes. Pump pressure stayed around 3 psi. Pump warmed up to the touch but not near as much as running with the engine off. I don't like the fact the specs say 6-8 psi, and I am reading around 3. The JEGS Tech person is a good start. |

I'm sure if you ran the pump with no fuel movement for ten minutes you boiled what fuel was in the pump out . If this is a carter style pump it has a pressure relief valve which can be removed and cleaned
