Default Remote Horn Blower?

When we take our Model A around town, we are often amused at folks we observe from afar as they ogle the car closely. Today, we were sitting in a restaurant, beside a window, where we could keep an eye on the car. Eventually, a couple left the restaurant and strolled over to our car for quite an intensive “inspection.” Both the man and the woman walked around the car and even peered inside. They seemed to enjoy viewing the car, and it was absolutely hilarious to watch.

As we were laughing at the unintentional free entertainment, my daughter looked over to me and asked if there was a way to blow the ahooga horn remotely. That was a very funny thought.

Has anyone managed to hook up such a contraption?

Most likely a high school electronics class could easily build one with off the shelf readily available components.

I think it would work, except for the 10A max current. From reading the Q&A, it appears that the 12v needed by the relay comes from the AA sized 12v battery and the contacts for 6v can be isolated.

I just assumed (again, electric stuff is not my strong suit) that I would need a 12 volt car battery to make this work:

I didn't think about adding AA batteries to the mix. Maybe this would work?

It only uses AA batteries if you don't have an alternate source of 12 volts, which you would have in a vehicle.

new horn draws 4.5 amps. I would use the vehicles elect system to power everything. wire the remote separately to power the remote, then parallel the output to the horns wiring. This way the button & remote will both work

Sorry, I don’t understand. What is “elect system?”

Hmmm... Then again, I'm not sure if AA batteries would give very many horn toots before they are exhausted. (I've never really understood how relays work.)

I love it when you say “unintentional “! Most Model A folks drive their cars to restaurants and grocery stores seeking attention. Haha

How about a 6V to 12V convertor to power the remote gizmo:

I remember Hillbilly Bob who was displaying his rusty and crusty Model A Hill Billy car at a local county fair. He had a windshield washer pump and hose set up with a nozzle coming our of the radiator. If you got too close it would squirt you with water...

He also had a switch under the running board so that when he jumped onto the running board it would start the engine...

We also had many years ago, most club members had CB radios installed in their cars for touring. I had an extra external loud speaker mounted under my hood and hidden that was connected to the ext speaker output of the CB. We could watch from a distance small children come up by my car and we could then use another CB in another car to talk to the child. Are own version of Thomas the Tank Engine talking to the kids.... We all enjoyed the fun with the exchanges between the child and the old talking car.

A great story, thank you. Wayne

Go to a commercial 2 way radio shop and ask about a horn honker. All commercial 2 way radios have honkers built in for remote calling a crew member to the truck if he is away.
They have add on units that can be attached to any car without a radio.
With some creative thinking one of these could even made to respond to a microphone and you could have a talking model A.
Somebody walks up to your car and it says "hello how are you today".
Maybe bad idea, might cause some heart attacks.....

My 10A current remark refers to the output contacts on the relay. If the horn draws more than 10A at any time, the relay will burn out. The AA sized battery that the device needs appears to provide 12V. To use AA batteries would require 8 in series.
