I am looking for a mirror for right side of my 48 Ford Conv. Does anyone made a new one with the base as wide as side chrome ? Also any that will bolt to door that you can see from drivers side ? thanks

never saw any style mirror on a 41-48, for the P.S., that you can see from the drivers seat. Even the D.S. usually vibrates so badly you can't see anything

The OEM accessory cowl mirrors base on the '42-'48 Ford is slightly narrower than the stainless trim on the hood and door. I have them on my '47 Convertible and the passenger side mirror is not visible (usable) from the drivers position however, I've been told it is in an excellent position for a passenger applying lipstick...

It was a problem for the '49-51's for pass. side for along time. Now the new mirrors will work on either side. They probably will look different on the '46 - 48's, but if you
drive these cars you really need mirrors on both sides! |

I addressed the 'right-hand-mirror-problem' by making a little bracket that clips on to the vent window. It has a small, store-bought, convex mirror on it. It slips on the edge of the vent window, around the upper hinge. I leave it on most of the time, and can easily remove it, for example at a car show. A few of my 46-48 friends have noted this arrangement, and I have made a few (very few) duplicates, out of polished SS. This still leaves the cowl mirror visible for my passenger. |

Interestingly, I have just fitted one on the passenger's door of my 69 Charger, ensuring that within a gnats cock it was in the same position as the one on the driver's door.
Yes, utterly useless but looks pretty ! |

Watched an episode of Jay Leno where he mounted a stick on mirror to the right side vent glass and then adjusted the vent glass to see out of the right side of his car.

I removed my stock '40 cowl mirrors, and mounted them on my doors.
Here are some pictures I just took. I can see whats behind me pretty good. Click on picture to Enlarge
