Re: Stp.
I am sure it would. Many people use John Deere cornhead grease which works well in low rpm situations.

STP will leak out. Use corn head grease.

Re: Stp.
Powerpunch, Bardahl and several others all have a similar product.
It has been used straight in steering boxes for many years in commercial trucks. It greatly decreases steering effort and prolongs life of the unit. Driving around with a steering box that leaks is the same mentality as having a gas tank or oil pan that leaks. |

Re: Stp.
I wouldn't use STP on my wheelbarrow.

Re: Stp.
JD corn head grease has been great in my '32 box. Doesn't leak and when I peaked in after a few months of driving, everything is coated with it. Highly recommend it.

Re: Stp.
The 'late' steering boxes have some very tight clearances in them -49 up and only the correct liquid oils will suffice. We [NW Pacific area] have an expert steering box machinist locally, a V8er too! Newc

Re: Stp.
nothing beats the satisfaction of a correct repair [fix the leak] but in the mean time semi fluid grease will work JDs corn header is just one of many

Re: Stp.
STP will not stop the leaks in an early ford steering box, but might slow it down a little. John Deer corn head grease will fix most of it but there is no substitute for repairing the box properly. I have tried all of these things before. Regards, Kevin.

Re: Stp.
STP is not a lubricant, period. Use a lubricant like corn head grease.

Re: Stp.
That is true.
Ccl4 is not listed as a lubricant either but it works much better than many things listed as "lubricants". All I am saying is, people don't need to follow the herd if they want something better. LOL Last edited by Pete; 10-20-2023 at 09:52 PM. |

These were clients that faithfully changed their oil and added that crap (STP). Talk about "snake oil"...

Re: Stp.
use 1/2 synthetic grease mixed with 1/2 synthetic trans doping mix up and force into box until it is full drive around and check the level. will not cook off like regular doping and as said before it is like power steering
