Default modern starter drive

I was looking at some old post back in 2010 as it relates to the modern bendix spring as it rlates to the problems ( teeth not meshing with ring gear teeth ,tearing up ring gears ,bending starter shats, etc, etc,) they caused . Not to long ago I was on a step hill and tried to start my 31 s/w with old style bendix . Well the spring broke on the bendix .So ,after reading Les Andrews book and something some where that Model "A" have a habit of breaking bendix springs when starting on a hill with the front pointed up hill , I decided to put in the modern starter drive . I have a new ring gear in this car and it has a 12v system . Since I have put in this modern starter drive I have had to events where the strated stayed engaged for about 10 seconds . I do not know if this is related to the drive or not. I am thinking about going back to the old style drive . Looking for some suggestions.

Thanks
