Default sterring help needed- stiff

i have a 31 slant window with following steering issue

The steering locks at any position but will come back if you turn the steering wheel.

All rods steering componenst have been disconnected and greased, disconnected drag link will let steering move when car is on jacks

when jack up at spindle top bearing will not move when on jack and spindle is hanging top bearing will turn and steering box seems free. this was done per les andrews book.

any suggestions why steering is stiff and when turn the wheel in car taking a turn the wheel will not spin back? any and all suggestions appreciated

yes and no tried all suggestions and problem is not solved, its like the steering is stiff but car will turn and if i turn to take a left or right turn the wheel will stay in that position and the car will keep turningthat way and wheel wont turn back at all unless i pull back and if idont ill keep going in circles.

Time to see a front end alignment shop and find out what angles are incorrect. find one that can work on straight axles.

Did this problem just start OR is this after you've adj the strg box?? Have you adjusted the strg box?? What are you using for strg box lubricant?? It's supposed to be 600w (or the equivalent) NOT chassis grease. Toe in/out set correctly??

I had the same problem on a newly rebuilt column. I loosened the lock nut and loosened the top bolt a quarter turn. Bearings were too tight. Works much better now.

By the way that is what we have been referring to as binding in the steering.
