Engine Serial Number Question
My 1929 Roadster's engine does not have the Stars before and after the serial number. The SN# starts with a "II" not the typical "A" listed in the documents found on Ford Barn. Does anyone have any idea about this SN#?

Re: Engine Serial Number Question
One of mine also does not begin with star and A because it was a post Model A manufactured motor known as "diamond" block for the casting mark above the side timing cover. Check your motor for this casting mark. Some of these motors were used on farm equipment and thus did not get a typical serial number.

Re: Engine Serial Number Question
Mine does not have a diamond, but also does not have the stars. Does that mean mine is a rebuilt? Going by the numbers alone it was mfg in January 1929. If rebuilt and re-numbered, how likely is it that they stamped the same number, but w/o the stars?

Diamond blocks have some upgrades like hardened exhaust valve seats and a B cam, plus a few spots that were often thin in regular production A motor castings are a little thicker and not so prone to cracking. Kevin |
