Default New valve assy. tool

For years I have been hunting the swaps and flea mkts. for an old tool that my dad used to bring home from work (Ford dealer), whenever we had a flathead engine to do a valve job on. This was mostly when I was in high school 50+ years ago. I have never been able to find another one, and I don't remember if it was a "Ford" tool or some other tool co. A couple of weeks back I decided to make one, as similar as I could remember to what the original looked like. It's finally done, and I posted pictures of it in my album. Paul Selfe.

Gee, you did a fine job on that tool. Very professional looking. Looks like you have a plasma cutter or something to make those clean cuts.

From the look of your tool (which is quite beautifully made!) I think you are replicating the KR Wilson dealer tool for valve assembly. The Wilson one was one of the first specialized tools I found many years ago, and I can no longer imagine how long it would take to assemble 16 sets without it!

Beautiful job!! I have never seen that particular tool before. Looks like it would save a barrel of work.

Thanks guys. No plasma cutter Russ (I wish I did), just a band saw, drill press, and pedestal grinder to rough out the pieces. Not sure if it was a KR Wilson, as I remember it was cast steel, the upright was more like a post, and the valve holder may have been more open. It's been many years since I've seen it. Yes, it does make assembly much faster. I used to use an old drill holding (press) fixture, but it was a little clumsey. Paul Selfe.

Paul,
I made basically the same tool, after seeing a picture of one in a Ford truck service book. Sure makes quick work of valve assembly.

NIce work Bob, I like the big black knob too! I think if you're going to work on flatheads you have to be a little creative. Paul Selfe.
