I mentioned this in Jeff's "my roadster recurrection post", but feel that it might be worthy of it's own post.
I remember talking to a Model A owner once who was driving with his kids in his coupe's rumble seat. He had to stop fast and the rumble seat lid came forward and his daughter ended up with a cracked tooth. He built some kind of brace that he could install which kept the rumble seat lid from moving forward. For you rumble seat owner, you might might want to consider doing the same. Regards, Neil |

My thoughts are a pair of lap belts and a two point shoulder harness.
Not sure if it would work, but I am thinking of putting belt from the bumper brace up over the rumble lid edge. Some time before the top of the rumble I would split them into a Y and come over the shoulders and have two loops to have the lap belts go though. |

I've never seen oil grooves that feed the thrust, very interesting. I would think that would add to any leakage problem but maybe not? Thanks Kevin!

Wow, thanks. I never thought of that. I'm glad you posted that since my two boys will be in the back.
I'm sure you can rig up some sort of hook that goes over the hinge and the upright brace in the 1/4 panel. Never thought of it until today, but I will put that on the list to do. Thanks again. Tim |

Hmm, you're probably have a 'point' to ponder...as to "granmaws" and "old folks" are not much worth 'worrow' about. Kids....I'll have to rethink ![]() |

If your coupe has the rear spare tire, you could just run a simple tie down strap from the rumble lid handle to a spoke on the wheel and it will keep the lid from slamming shut, or even if you dont have a spare tire you cold run a strap to the rear bumper assembly. It might be a little ugly for some peoples taste, but itll work and can be easily removed

I've been using my coupe with a rumble seat for over 40 years and this has never crossed my mind. My greatest worry is being able to stop. Can't imagine being able to stop fast enough to move the deck lid forward.
Thanks for this information. |
