Default Rod brakes

Hi,
Can someone help me out?
I have been cleaning my rear brakes up on my 1929 Pickup. I removed the brake assemblies a long time ago. I have now come to put them back on but cannot get the brake levers through the wishbone.
I have read Les Andrews book and removed the emergency brake band but I still cannot get the levers through the wishbone.
What am I doing wrong?
I feel like I am using my mind!
Please can someone put me right.
Thanks Andy.

did you try jacking up the rear end and losen the wishbone and see if they will fit by moving the wishbone a little.

Take the wishbone off, install the backing plates, then reinstall the wishbone. Be sure you have the backing plates on the correct sides.

Thanks Larry,
I have managed to get them on now! I even had to remove the exhaust to get the passenger side wishbone back on!
