I bought a 37-39 style intake at a swap meet earlier this year. It looks typical of Ford's factory intake except it has a large S in a circle on top of the runner in front of the carb area. The only other unusual feature is a casting date on the bottom "7-25-47". Does anyone know why the S is on top?
Thanks, Fred |

Typically, a raised letter, numeral, etc. signifies (IE) the manufacturer, date, mold ID. My guess in this case is this was produced outside of the Ford Motor CO. as a service replacement part. obviously in 1947.

It is the low generator mount 37 and later type intake. I didn't take a picture from the side and don't have the intake at home.

Looks like 2 vacuum ports like a 40 manifold has on driver's side too. Is that a dirty spot or another vacuum hole on the passenger side front runner pointing forward?

I heard of a guy that put the letter S on his hotrod car. The neighbors were overheard exclaiming as he zoomed past where they were standing: "Look at that S-car-go!"
Sorry, dad humor just uncontrollably bubbles out sometimes.
