Default Fender Lights

What countries had a mandate for Model A's to have fender lights? Are there any reproductions of fender lights sold in these countries?

England and Ireland Uruguay and Argentina but most likely more . Someone might know more . They all had the fluted lens the model B fender lamps had convex lens which mimics the headlamp pattern . The USA and English lamps are the same apart from lens glass colour the USA being Yellow tint and English violet tint . I bought a USA lamp at the Qualcom meet it had the yellow tint the body identical to my English ones . The lamp in the middle of Bobs pic is late commercial all mild steel 30/31 earlier ones the door was stainless . My theory Henry ordered too many fluted style and had to use them up . Very difficult to find now .

The acorn shaped 28/29 fender lamps had the same fluted lens . Body seems to be nickel plated brass . The 1930 Model A ones are all stainless (apart from commercial ) In the English Jan 1st 1931 it lists stainless and chrome plated . The stainless ones are AE prefix and the chrome plated are AF prefixed part numbers The "E" means English production the "F" means not production line fitment ,dealer accessory fitment . Could be you did not have the stainless lamp in USA . Bobs lamps look stainless maybe off an English imported car . USA service men brought them in . I had a good friend who lived close to the big American base in Mildenhall he sourced cars for servicemen who had completed their tour of duty and were into model A .

"Fender Lights" as you call them were not a requirement here and I'm pretty sure not in NZ either.

I do not have any fender lamps, but I would like to purchase a pair for my 1931 Coupe to use as turn signals. Are the fender lights the same or close to the size of 1932 Cowl Lights?

The Service Bulletins describe the '29 style, but the '32's are probably the closest to the '31 as you suggest. One could possibly adapt the repro '32 lamp mounting brackets to a pair of A '31'cowls if you want a closer bucket profile. The '34's are listed as 2 3/4" dia.by the vendors.

Thanks Duke. I am of the mind set to use a pair of repro 1932 cowl lights with their stubby mounting brackets.

Why not just convert your cowl lights and change the colour of the bulbs ?

CW Moss offers just the '32 stubbies at $60. The look like they could fit the '30 buckets which may have a different profile than the '32 ?

Hi Wayne! I want to do something different. My 45B Coupe will be undergoing an overhaul because its tired after being driven 50,000 mostly interstate miles. The car already has cowl lights converted to signals, but why be normal?

Understood! I’ve played in that playground. Good luck, Wayne

Yes; someone in Brazil reproduces the Model A fender lights......though not exact, they are very close. They look to be '28-'30 acorn shaped light buckets (note the retainer screw in the back) with the '31 lenses (though un-frosted):

Here is the link to a Model A parts dealer in Brazil, Tomer's, who offers them for sale in their catalog:

The catalog price for the pair is R$360,12 which is about $70.68.

Obviously you will need to lengthen the wire and provide armor under the fender. Old speedo cable housing should work.

The correct, single-strand, armored cable is the same one used for the instrument panel light and is available, by-the-foot, from most parts stores. It must be thin enough to go up the center hole of the fender light mounting bolt:

Here's the link to that cable sold by Brattons:

Perfect, Brad. I hadn't checked to see if such was available.
