Default Holes in the oil drain pipe, and piston numbers

I took the oil pan off due to leaks.

What do the numbers on the piston mean, if anything. They say 1000 with the number 89 directly below the 1000.

Also, ever see holes in the oil drain tube like this? How could it possibly rot with all the oil?
