Default Reproduction SPRING SHACKLES -- offshore

There is a good thread on the HAMB about aftermarket/reproduction/ offshore/crap Model A spring shackles that broke on installation. Just wondering if anyone here has had them brake? Bob

I've seen a couple reprots of broken shakles.
Always install the shakle bar and nuts before releasing the spring spreader, no matter what quality the shakles are.

I have heard of this and I think it is terrible that such an unsafe product can be on the market. I hope there is a way to identify them. This is as unsafe as the front spindle grease slinger that was made in India a number of years ago. They conflicted with the front inner wheel bearing. Bratton's did something about it. He pulled his stock and sent it out for machining. Later he discovered that they were off in several dimensions. He again pulled the stock and scrapped it. He then went and procured the Ford drawing and had them made locally to the drawing.

Suppliers that are not diligent about some of these unsafe products could easily be named in a law suit if an accident occurs with an unsafe product they sold.

Thanks Tom, good to know that Bratton's watches over the parts they sell. Bob

I've been using shackles from Berts or the stainless steel shackles from Speedway. No issues on either one.

I have had them break as I was removing the spring spreader.
